David Poole always has the most crazy and crafty and funny ideas, I admire his approach to work and always look forward to his next project.
This is a capture of my collage called RUSSIA D I submitted to the last issue of the magazine. My home country: surreal, acidy, religious and random as it is. Or as I see it at least x
We had a lot of fun shooting ZDDZ video yesterday. +20 seemed to be a perfect weather and we spend all day filming in various locations around East London just trying to capture that ‘effortlessness’ which this area is filled with.
Had to change a model on the bus, on the street, in a pub etc. She didn’t mind at all but the grannies on a bus did
Ben TRK has travelled a long way from Russia, so excited to have him on board! Can’t wait to see the final edit.

‘Plastic heroes building concrete dreams, healthy bodies breading unhealthy obsessions. The Autumn Winter Season 13/14 for ZDDZ continues to build a dynamic, raw and ‘street’ culture influenced signature within it’s use of print and communication through shape. Commentary can be found on the subject of ‘Bodycult’, the significance of doping in sports to maintain performance and the pressure that becomes the norm…’

The distorted stripes (chevron) print represents the idea of changing your body shape when you try hard to make it what it is not. I mean, taking steroids, doping and overworking at the gym, all these things distort the healthy perception of the body, beauty and health itself. I wanted to use the distortion of a straight line as a visual metaphor.
Behind the prints
The prints all come from looking at the books and the newspaper articles about athletes. I started with looking at sport athletes in general, at their grace and flexibility and strength. But then I got obsessed with the idea of making your body a cult. The Olympics was a great showcase for body cult so I had a great primary source for research, plus I have a girl – friend of mine who is obsessed with getting muscles.
The prints say things like ‘Under pressure’, ‘Body cult’ etc., all these are quotes from athlete performance and doping leaflets. Some of the garments (grey jersey dress) literally have images of a muscle bound male chest on them. I chose to print on mesh for this season because it emphasizes the fragility of the body and it looks a bit like what they use for paneling for the suits of gymnasts. It also works great against those heavy fabrications I worked with for Autumn/Winter 2013.
ZDDZ is having a party on the 7th of March at the Wolf and Badger boutique where we are stocked!!!
Presentation of the new collection, food, drinks, goodie bags and a lot more!

‘The Bomber jacket is made by ZDDZ London. I bumped into the designer of ZDDZ, the lovely Dasha Selyanova last season and kept in contact. Its such a beautiful print, mixing ornate detailed patterns with hard gritty imagery of fists and newsprint font.’
We are very excited to start working in the new space from tomorrow! Come and visit us if you are around. We are in Cambridge Heath Road now x
Lianne is wearing ZDDZ Spring/Summer 2013 printed cotton shirt with pockets. Good piece to take with you to the seaside! Definitely not to be worn in London weather now.

The themes Grayson Perry picked up on are very interesting: ‘The tapestries tell the story of class mobility, for i think nothing has as strong an influence on our aesthetic taste as the social class in which we grown up. I am interested at the politics of consumerism and the history of popular design but for this project I focus on the emotional investment we make in the things we choose to live with, wear, eat, read or drive. Class and taste run deep in our character – we care. This emotional charge is what draws me to a subject’.
